Signature Projects
Kamayan Feast
Signature project created in 2018. This signature event highlights our chapter's mission to perpetuate the Filipino culture. Through a collaborative venture with a skilled local Filipino chef, we've crafted an immersive culinary experience that not only showcases talents but also provides support to local businesses deeply rooted in our cultural heritage. Our members are given the opportunity to serve on a planning committee and organize an event centered around fundraising. This project is usually a fundraising event for our chapter, but recent events have prompted a purposeful shift in our focus. Rather than solely channeling our efforts toward internal financial goals, we've redirected proceeds to assist local nonprofits. This deliberate move not only enhances our organizational skills but also underscores our organization's broader commitment to social responsibility and community welfare. It's a personal reflection of our dedication to preserving and celebrating Filipino culture, extending our impact beyond cultural events to make a meaningful difference in our communities.
Filipino Cultural Summit
Signature Project created in 2022. The purpose of this project is to host an event for the community at large that will provide an interactive experience to connect participants (including members) to Filipino history, traditions, food, and language; and establish a long-term mutually beneficial partnership for local educators, students, and community organizations. By hosting a diverse agenda of experiential activities and learning opportunities, and integrating community partners, the chapter is facilitating personal growth in members (and potential members), inspiring a vision to sustain partnerships with the community, and equipping members with skills and resources required to create positive change in their community.
Flores de Mayo and Filipino Fiesta
Flores de Mayo and Filipino Fiesta is Oʻahu's largest annual event celebrating Filipino culture. The event features something for the entire ohana: food, keiki games, retail booths, cultural exhibits, and entertainment. Proceeds from the event supports the mission of the Filipino Community Center: to provide social, economic and education services and to promote and perpetuate Filipino culture and customs in the State of Hawaiʻi.
Mental Health Awareness Campaign
Signature Project created in 2022. The purpose of the mental health awareness campaign is to shed light on the importance of mental health in our individual lives, to share resources, and build community. Taking care of one’s mental health is as important as maintaining physical health, which has been especially true during the pandemic. By creating a safe place to inform, discuss, and act, this campaign aims to promote mental wellness and strengthen community ties with compassion and understanding, which will in turn, empower members to perpetuate positive change.
